Darlene Ann Barnet
Surrounded by family, Darlene Ann (Gibson) Barnet, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Sun Valley, Nevada.
Darlene was born on January 26, 1949 in Owyhee, NV to Joe Bill & Theresa Gibson, but due to a family tragedy while she was young, Darlene was raised in the Idaho and Nevada foster care systems. She was a full-blooded member of the Shoshone-Paiute tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. Darlene was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
As a teenager, Darlene was a trophy girl at Tahoe Carson Speedway, and competed in the 1967 Miss Carson City Pageant. As an adult, Darlene served for most of her adult life in many roles and activities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
As a mother, she loved engaging in everything her children were doing, including ballet, piano recitals, soccer, basketball games, cross-country, track, choir concerts, and school plays—she never missed an event. She loved everything her kids were involved in and was their biggest fan.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents Neal & Janice Larsen; Rick, her husband of 54 years; half-brother Benson (Antoinette) Gibson; sister LaPriel (Ron) Musgrave; half-sister Pat (Vic) Luna, sister JoAnn (Malcolm) Whitehouse, brother Joe Bill Gibson, Jr., sister-in-law Antoinette (Benson) Gibson, nephew Terry (Debbie) Gibson, and nephew Matt (Emily) Bolinger.

Darlene is survived by her foster family: Marta (Neal) Larsen, Scott (Tawna) Larsen, Ginger (Paul) Iverson; her 3 children: Richard (Misti) Barnet, Heather Barnet (Tyler House), David Barnet; her grandchildren Bonny (Phillip) Shoemaker, Rebecca (Trevor) Williams, Jared Barnet, and Emma Barnet; and her great-grandson, Abraham Shoemaker. Darlene loved her family very much, and enjoyed spending time with them as often as possible.
No service will be held. Cremation performed by La Paloma Funeral Services, Reno, Nevada.
