Born in October 1951 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, I am a lifelong Nevadan. I grew up in Sun Valley during its formative decades, from the 1950s through 1980s, an experience that sparked a deep and lasting passion for the area’s history and development. As the next-to youngest of five children, family and community have always been central to my life.
I attended Washoe County schools and graduated from Sparks High School in 1969. My family owned five acres of land – half of the five acres is where Hobey’s parking lot and garage now stand.
Throughout my life, I have remained deeply interested in Nevada history, with a particular focus on Northern Nevada. Professionally, I spent the majority of my career in the transportation industry, while also owning and operating several small businesses in the area.

Do You Know Sun Valley? Part 2.
After WWII ended, soldiers returned home and many moved west to Reno and Sparks, where land was inexpensive. Prosser Valley then became Sun Valley in 1947.

In 1870, John C. Prosser filed a claim for 40 acres of land intended for agricultural and grazing use. This parcel included a natural spring for irrigation.
