The Hug Varsity Volleyball Invitational took place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Procter R. Hug High School in Sparks, Nevada. The all-day sporting event saw varsity teams from high schools all around the region competing to see who is the best at the start of this new volleyball season.

Each of the teams at the invitational played a minimum of three matches to start the season off strong and build momentum. And, of course, the Hug Hawks pretty much dominated. 💪

Of course, with athletes, friends, and family from all over the region at Hug for many hours, the concessions booth was a nearly constant hub of activity.

Hug Head Coach Ciarra Collins had this to say about the event, “In the first tournament of the year, Hug volleyball played beyond expectations. The team worked together, moved together, and really looked in sync for the three games they played, finding success in their pool respectively. While they didn’t advance to the championship, it was stiff competition with 3 teams, McQueen, Wooster, and Sierra Lutheran being undefeated in their pools.”

“This annual event—which began the opening year of the new location of the school—hosted 12 schools and continues to grow. As one of the biggest fundraisers for the program, Hug hopes to find similar success in their first ever Freshman and Junior Varsity tournament that will be taking place on the 23rd,” Collins continued.

Assistant Coach Brenna Lui (Hug Alumna, Class of 2023) further explained, “This season’s team delivered an impressive performance at the 4th Annual HUG Tournament, which featured three competitive pool brackets. The tournament ran smoothly thanks to the support of our dedicated coaches and players. It was a great way to kick off the season before league matches begin! With our season starting this Tuesday, I’m proud to say we have a group of girls you’ll want to come watch.”
