Joel Campmany is a beloved teacher at Hug High School.

Spanish may be a beautiful language that we’re not all able to understand; however, we are all able to connect and understand this universal language—the art of numbers.

Math can be translated to all different places and languages and will still have the same outcome, which is Joel Campmany’s favorite thing. Mr. Campmany is a Hug High School algebra teacher who likes to connect with his students, and is commonly known as “Los Banditos.”

Mr. Campmany has always tried to build connections with everyone through math or the love of sports. First, he was a teacher in Europe and when he came to the States, he wanted to keep his teaching career open to many opportunities and options because he liked numbers. Mr. Campmany stated, “Numbers have no language limitations,” and this was what sold him on becoming a math teacher.

Campmany has always enjoyed the sport of soccer and was even on a team in Spain. After coming to the States, he knew something was missing, and having the opportunity to coach was that missing piece. However, having flexibility between teaching and time with his family was something important to him.

Thankfully, Nico Moreno, the head coach, helped to make that possible. Seizing the opportunity to help Moreno coach was not just to keep a connection with the sport, but also provided a way to build a deeper bond with his people and student athletes through something he loved.

Pablo Perez, one of his former students, shared, “I am really glad to have had Mr. Campmany as a teacher because he is so easy-going, is willing to help someone out, and is really inspirational.” Andrew Ramirez, one of his former team players, stated, “He is always smiling and happy, motivating us at all times.”

In conclusion, these little words show us the big impact he has and how respected he is here at Procter R. Hug High School. Mr. Campmany is one of the best teachers here, impacting many with his positivity and good deeds.
