Sun Valley Scolari’s Store Closing Soon

After decades of serving the Northern Nevada community, Joey and Jerry Scolari (owners of Scolari’s Food and Drug Company) have made the difficult decision to close the company’s two remaining locations in Sun Valley and Sparks. The decision marks the end of a long and proud era for a family-owned business that has been part of the retail landscape since 1947.

Despite efforts to extend the lease or purchase at the Sun Valley location, they have not been able to reach an agreement. Operating the Sparks store independently would present significant challenges. In light of the substantial capital investments that would be required to modernize operations, coupled with changing consumer shopping habits, the family has made the difficult decision to retire from the business.

“This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly,” said Joey and Jerry Scolari. “Our roots in the grocery industry go back nearly 80 years, and we are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated employees, and supportive communities. But the time has come for our family to move on to the next chapter.”

Scolari’s has been known for its local commitment, convenience, and neighborhood presence—values that have been at the core of the business for generations. The store’s legacy will remain a meaningful part of Northern Nevada’s history.

Details regarding final closing dates and transitional support for employees will be shared in the coming weeks.
