Valley Pawn is a family-owned business with a rich history and strong commitment to the Sun Valley, NV community. When asked, their daily operations for the employees were mentioned as “far from dull!” They focus on helping others and fostering a positive environment. They also mentioned that they have met some really cool people and developed many relationships with people that consider them a home and safe place to be who they are.
The business is run by a brother and sister team, Matt and Carmell Ludlow, and is owned now by their mother. As a small business, a significant challenge was ensuring that all team members are fully engaged rather than just “checking in and out.” The biggest risk the company took was moving locations in 1997. However, it was a decision that ultimately led to success. Another tough moment was when their father passed in 2022.

The company’s most successful service is watch and clock repairs, a skill passed down through generations from their grandparents who owned many shops in the Bay Area.
Looking ahead, their vision for the next 5-10 years is to “start a new generation of the family branch and legacy. The team takes pride in their work.” Carmell also commented, “The pawn business can be looked at as dark and dirty, but it is all about who you can help and what they can bring to the shop.”
