Highland Ranch Park (Review)

Highland Ranch Park

Last updated on May 5th, 2025

The spring weather has been so nice this past week, so we decided to visit Highland Ranch Park and take a leisurely afternoon walk here and enjoy some fresh air.

Upon arriving, we immediately found a nice parking spot (there are approximately 10 parking spots available, including 2 handicapped spots), so we parked and started walking around the perimeter walking path. The circular walking path is paved and was free from any debris, pet waste, or other issues. We observed that this park features a half-sized basketball court, some nice horseshoe pits, and a sand volleyball court (although the net looks like it needs attention currently).

Continuing around the path, we saw a handful of picnic tables with barbecue grilling areas, and a good-sized playground for children with benches for parents. Adjacent to the parking area is a Porta Potty, two bicycle loop racks, and what appears to be a small maintenance shed. The covered picnic pavilion is nearby, and next to that is quite a large, open grassy area.

Beyond the park boundaries are numerous hiking trails that meander through the hills that surround the park. A short trail walk south of the park brought us to some absolutely huge boulders which were interesting and which are a good photo op. Methinks this would be a great spot for a geocache, but it’s been a hot minute since we have gone geocaching, so I cannot say for certain if one is there or not.

The day we visited most recently, there were approximately 3 other families there—one young family using the playground, one couple walking a pair of dogs, and another family walking the circular path. We did a little bit of everything, but focused mainly on exploring the hiking trails on this quick trip.

The grass isn’t lush and green yet (as of early April 2025), but it is absolutely amazing during the summer months, and we’ll be sure to return often this year. This is a great facility, and I’m so happy that Sun Valley has wonderful parks like this for residents to enjoy.
