The Cutest, Little VW Bus You’ll Ever See!

Pretty Mailbox in Sun Valley, Nevada

Last updated on May 8th, 2025

Sun Valley residents are known for their resourcefulness and artistic flair, in many cases. We spotted this absolute gem while driving around one day, and simply had to snap a pic because it’s so cute!

This painted mailbox must surely bring a smile each day to their mail carrier, as well as their neighbors. The cute, little VW (Volkswagen) bus has a light blue ceiling, and a red flag where the “no crossing” sign would be if it were a school bus. The sides of the bus are painted in multicolored, pastel panels, each depicting a different scene. A general theme of peace, butterflies, sunshine, and “flower power” straight out of the ’70s are evident, and elicit a relaxed, calming response from the viewer.

The lid features a ‘face’ with two cute eyes with long eyelashes, and a license plate for the mouth which shows the property address. (In this photo, we’ve removed the address for privacy reasons, however.) The background of the face is predominantly a pink and purple gradient with rainbow highlights for the ‘hair’.

The wheels on the bus may not go ’round and ’round, but they do complete this cute scene and round out a joyous, artistic representation of the artist’s inner serenity. I have not (yet) spoken to the owner, but I’m sure there is a cool story behind this artistic work.

About the Author

Richard Barnet

A former resident of Carson City, Reno, and Sparks, Richard finally saw the error of his ways and moved his family to Sun Valley, Nevada to live the good life. He finds Sun Valley intriguing, and loves this magical place more than words can describe.

Richard, a Scorpio, currently enjoys playing Star Trek Fleet Command, watching 'The Wheel of Time' on Amazon Prime, and listening to crazy genres of music on Spotify—including classical. (Whoa.)

While most people either dislike Sci-Fi films entirely, or they vehemently prefer Star Wars to Star Trek (or vice versa), Richard loves both Star Trek and Star Wars—equally.

His favorite BBQ food is smoked & salted beef brisket, his favorite painter is Piet Mondrian, and his Hogwarts house is Ravenclaw. He loves using em dashes, and swears by the Oxford comma.
