1. The Runaway Cow

“My uncle told me a story about his milk cow that would get away and he’d see her at the top of a hill, and they’d both go down the hill and he’d only hope he was closer the next time to cow got to the top of a hill and was visible. Lots of people lived in tents and depended on that cow for whatever milk Uncle Earl’s family didn’t use, so they’d help him catch her and get her back.

I’d never thought about how many little hills there are here in Sun Valley. My cousin said, ‘Oh, yes! I even got to milk her occasionally.’ He and a neighbor, Mac, decided to make ‘real’ ice cream once so they used only cream. It was so rich they couldn’t eat it in one sitting.” — Valerie K.

About the Author

Richard Barnet

A former resident of Carson City, Reno, and Sparks, Richard finally saw the error of his ways and moved his family to Sun Valley, Nevada to live the good life. He finds Sun Valley intriguing, and loves this magical place more than words can describe.

Richard, a Scorpio, currently enjoys playing Star Trek Fleet Command, watching 'The Wheel of Time' on Amazon Prime, and listening to crazy genres of music on Spotify—including classical. (Whoa.)

While most people either dislike Sci-Fi films entirely, or they vehemently prefer Star Wars to Star Trek (or vice versa), Richard loves both Star Trek and Star Wars—equally.

His favorite BBQ food is smoked & salted beef brisket, his favorite painter is Piet Mondrian, and his Hogwarts house is Ravenclaw. He loves using em dashes, and swears by the Oxford comma.
